Phone Number QR Code Generator

Turn a phone number into a QR code that opens the dialler with the number already typed in. Callers scan, check the number and tap Call — no misdialled digits.

  • Opens the dialler
  • International format check
  • Made in your browser
  • PNG & SVG

What happens when someone scans it

A phone QR code contains a tel: link, for example tel:+15550102030 — the same kind of link that makes a phone number tappable on a website. When a phone camera reads it, the phone offers to call the number. Nothing is dialled automatically: the person scanning sees the number first and decides whether to place the call.

On a tablet or laptop without a phone line, the device may offer to call through an app such as FaceTime or Skype, or simply show the number.

How to enter the number

Write the number in international format: a plus sign, the country code, then the rest of the number, for example +1 555 010 2030 for the United States or +44 20 7946 0000 for London. Spaces, dashes, dots and brackets are removed automatically, so you can paste the number the way it is printed on your website.

  • Drop the leading zero of a national number when you add the country code: the UK number 020 7946 0000 becomes +44 20 7946 0000.
  • A number without a country code still works for callers in the same country, and the generator reminds you to add one. Visitors with foreign SIM cards may reach the wrong number or none at all.
  • Extensions cannot be dialled reliably from a code, so use a direct number or note the extension next to the code.

Open “Encoded content” under the form to see the exact link stored in the code.

Why use a QR code instead of printing the number?

Most people can type a phone number, but they make mistakes, especially with long international numbers, on a moving bus or from across a shop window. A QR code removes typing altogether. It also works well where space is tight: a sticker on equipment, the corner of a flyer, a parcel label or a product manual.

Keep the number printed next to the code as well. Some people prefer to read it, and it reassures them about who they are about to call.

Common mistakes

  • Missing country code on material that travels: tourist leaflets, product packaging and anything posted online.
  • Premium or toll-free numbers that cannot be reached from abroad or from mobile phones. Test-call the number from a mobile before printing.
  • Changing the number later. The number is written into the code. If it changes, every printed code still calls the old one, so make and print a new code.
  • Too small or low contrast. A phone code is short and simple, so it scans well even small — but keep the white border and dark modules on a light background.

Where phone codes work well

  • Service and repair stickers on boilers, printers, lifts and vending machines.
  • “Call to book” on posters, menus and shop windows.
  • Delivery notes and invoices, linked to the customer service line.
  • Emergency and on-call contact sheets, where speed and accuracy matter.
  • Real-estate signs and vehicle signage, scanned from the pavement.

Want people to send a text or a WhatsApp message instead of calling? Use the SMS generator or the WhatsApp generator. To share every contact detail at once, use a vCard code.

Questions

Does scanning the code call the number automatically?

No. The phone shows the number and asks whether to call. The person scanning always confirms the call themselves.

Should I include the country code?

Yes, whenever the code might be scanned by visitors or customers with foreign phones. Write + and the country code, then the number without its leading zero.

Can I add an extension?

Extensions are not dialled reliably from a QR code. Use a direct line, or print the extension next to the code.

Will the code keep working if I change my number?

No. The number is stored inside the code, so a new number needs a new code.

What is the difference between a phone code and a vCard code?

A phone code only offers to call one number. A vCard code saves a whole contact card — name, company, phones, email and address — to the phone's contacts.

Is my number uploaded anywhere?

No. The code is made in your browser and nothing you type leaves your device.
