What happens when someone scans it
A WhatsApp QR code contains a click-to-chat link in the format WhatsApp documents in its help centre: https://wa.me/ followed by the full phone number in international format, plus an optional ?text= with the message. When a phone reads it, it opens WhatsApp with a chat to that number and the message already in the text box. The person scanning reviews it and taps Send.
Because it is a normal web link, it works with any phone camera. If WhatsApp is not installed, the link opens a WhatsApp web page instead, which offers to download the app or continue on WhatsApp Web.
How to fill in each field
WhatsApp number
Enter the number that has WhatsApp, in international format: a plus sign, the country code and the number without its leading zero — for example +44 7700 900123 rather than 07700 900123. You can also start with 00 instead of +. Spaces, dashes and brackets are removed; WhatsApp's own instructions ask for the number without any of them, and the generator produces exactly that.
If you leave the number empty, the code opens WhatsApp with just your message and lets the person scanning choose who to send it to. That is useful for “share this with a friend” campaigns.
Pre-filled message
Optional text that appears in the chat box. Good messages are short and tell you the context: “Hi, I'd like to order the spring bouquet” or “Question about flat 3B”. Line breaks, emoji and accented letters are encoded for you so they arrive exactly as typed.
Works for WhatsApp Business too
Click-to-chat links work for regular and WhatsApp Business accounts alike. Businesses often print a different pre-filled message on each flyer, shop window or product so they can tell which placement brings in conversations — no tracking service needed.
Common mistakes
- Local number format. A number without the country code cannot be turned into a valid wa.me link, so the generator asks for it.
- A number that is not on WhatsApp. The chat cannot open. Scan your printed proof with your own phone first.
- Personal numbers in public. Anyone can read the number inside the code. Consider a separate business number for signs and packaging.
- Very long messages. They make the code dense and harder to scan from a distance.
- Changing numbers. The number is part of the code, so a new number needs a new code.
Where WhatsApp codes work well
- Shop windows and counters: “Message us to order”.
- Restaurant tables and takeaway bags for orders and reservations.
- Property and car-sale signs, with the listing reference pre-filled.
- Product packaging and manuals for support.
- Event badges and booths, to continue the conversation later.
For people without WhatsApp, offer an SMS code or a phone code next to it.
Questions
Is this an official WhatsApp QR code?
It uses WhatsApp's documented click-to-chat link, https://wa.me/ followed by the number. WhatsApp's own app can also show a QR code for your account; this generator lets you add a pre-filled message and your own style.
Does the person scanning need to save my number?
No. The link opens a chat with your number directly, without adding you to their contacts.
Can I leave the number empty?

What if WhatsApp is not installed?
The link opens a WhatsApp web page that offers to download the app or use WhatsApp Web.
Will the message be sent automatically?
No. The message appears in the chat box and the person scanning decides whether to send it.
Is my number uploaded to your server?
No. The code is made in your browser. Only the person scanning sends anything, directly to WhatsApp.
